After ripping Lord of the Rings 1 (Disc 1) onto my computer using DVD Shrink, and changing the container file from VOB to MPEG-2 using SUPER, I tried to convert the uncompressed MPEG to a MPEG-4 file using x264. I intended to keep the same resolution, same Framerate, and 1536kbps bit rate.
However, in the end the video would be stretched! Somehow, even though I selected to same Resolution and Aspect Ratio as the original, the Length of the video was compressed down somewhat, and as a result the video was stretched so that the original Aspect Ration was not preserved, and the video was distorted.
to convert dvd to mp4, i'd like to give a vote to SPAM. it works well and is fairly convenient to try.
apart from converting dvd to mp4, it can also convert dvd to iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP and other popular players.
if you wanted to be cheap you could ripp the dvd your self using rip then take the file and convert it to mp4 using i tunes or a free mp4 converter like psp video 9, although it's meant for psp it's still mp4
