It's not in my budget right now to get a new computer. I was using an older PC on which I had installed a cheap BUSLINK DVD+-R Drive. The burner still works fine, but my motherboard took a dump. Now I am using an older laptop with XP and usb ports that are 1.0. The laptop doesn't have a DVD burner.

Is there anyway I can hook the BUSLINK IDE DVD+-R to the laptop. I don't care what it looks like. I don't care if the internal drive is sitting out on my desk.

I'm pretty savvy, but most of the adapters I see online seem to be for putting laptop hardware onto a desktop. They are also a little pricey. I don't want to invest much in this jerry rigged system, since in 6 months or so I will probably buy a whole new system.

Thanks,
s

can get an external usb 5.25" case that will take the burner. will need an usb2 adapter on the laptop or you'll just make coasters as usb1 transfers info at about 11mbs & usb2 at 400mbs.

I saw those cases at compusa. I don't want to spend that much on this old laptop. I was hoping there was some cheap conversion cable; but given the limitations of usb 1; I don't thing there are any inexpensive solutions. I will just have to wait until I replace this laptop to burn dvd's. Thanks for responding.
