MP4 Music and Voice menus unavailable.

I think I accidentally erased the root for my music files on my MP4 player. When I try to access the Music menu the player says "initializing", but then the screen goes black,the hourglass appears, and then the player restarts and takes me back to the main Music menu. When I access the E: drive on my computer there are the songs that I downloaded, but I am unable to access the music nor my VOICE menu. I have a "Nano-like" player with 1G if that helps.
