burn dvd movies won't play on dvd player.

I can burn a movie on a blank dvd-r or dvd+rw but it won't play on my dvd player, why not.

I download movies off the internet on my laptop to burn.I burn them on blank dvd-r or dvd+rw they will play on my laptop but not on my dvd player. why not.

first off please do not tell us how you pirated movies from the internet! Piracy is not allowed here!

you would have to convert your files to DVD compliant files .. if you are just burning an AVI file to DVD disk (DATA DVD) then you have the file burned but the player won't play it unless it can play AVI files! Your laptop can play AVI files! your player can't! that's why you need to convert the avi file to DVD compliant files to play in a stand alone DVD player.

no need to apologize for something we all did when we were newbies!

There are many programs that will do the job... I use ConvertXToDVD for my AVI files..... NeroVision is another program that can do it! and there are many more.
