HP DVD Writer 1040d not burning

I had to recently reformat my PC. Now, my DVD writer can read DVDs, but not write them. I have used different burning software and media. Could this be a driver issue?

HP Media PC
Nero 7 Essentials
HP DVD Writer 1040d
DVDShrink
Verbatim DVD+R and DYNEX DVD+R 16X

OK, i tries to burn on HP DVD+RW, and it worked. But I'm still having the issue with DVD+Rs. Can someone please help?
