Thanks for your quick reply etowah. It is my understanding that for this model I have to type in the key WITH the SIM card on... (typing it without a SIM card simply doesn't do anything, it doesn't register the full code once you finish typing).

I tried unlocking it using my SIM card (a US Cingular Card) but it threw back an error... any suggestions?

it was in spanish (I used to use this phone in Mexico) and the translation is something like "code not valid"
