Camcorder Tape to DVD Recorder to PC=copyrighted?

I've been puting my families personal camcorder tapes onto dvd+rw's then into my PC so I can edit them and chapter and such things but after I did 1, it started to tell me when trying to copy them into my PC that they were copyrighted. How is this possible? Another thing is that i have to finalize the disc to have my PC "see" the video on the disc and this is making my DVD+RW's unusable again as I cannot erase them using nero or my DVD recorder. What can I do, I can't keep buying discs to do this. Please help.
