I was looking to add a video card to my first build after its finished, im looking to play games like bioshock (the newest generation of games) at 1024x768 and at pretty high quality settings, i only want to spend like 200$ but 300 is my absolute limit.
Thanks

find something with a high core and memory speed..i would go with a nvidia 8600gts or a ati radeon x1950 pro. i have a radeon x1950pro and i can play test drive unlimited with everything maxed out. it actually performs better then the 360 version. make sure u have a good cooling system as well. the new cards run really hot and tend to overheat sometimes. i have 2x120 mm fans..one intake and outake..and then an 80mm blowing towards my radeon..good luch
latest build:
-asus a8v-xe..via k8t890 chipset..athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0ghz/ Overclocked to 2.5ghz/ 2000mhz FSB..160gb HDD SATA 7200rpm..ATI Radeon X1950 Pro/256mb GDDR3..3gb kingston ddr 400 ram..480w thermaltake psu...thermaltake case/ 2x120mm fans/ 92mm on cpu/ 80mm blowing towards graphics card..xp pro premium..logitech z5500 speakers

Nice speakers though, braunerf!
If you've got PCI express 16x you can see if you can find an 8800GTS (320MB), they're fantastic, but if that's out of your price range, try an X1950 Pro. JUst make sure you've got a decent power supply, not some crappy 400W unit that came with the case.

That power supply should be fine. As for cooling, what do you mean? As long as you've got at least a 120mm case fan, or two 80mm case fans you should be alright with either, just plug them in and go.

The 8800 GTS is about 60 bucks more and and has a better price performance ratio. My vote goes to the 8800 GTS.

yea i say the 8800gts too.i have it and i havent tryed a game yet i couldnt play. although u will need a good cooling for it, either put in enuf fans or swap of the hsf for a better one. although i just put mine in front of the window with a big box fan and its running fine

heh I paid £150 for them when they were rrp £280, although mine are second hand, they're well looked after. Why can't houses have thicker walls? :@
The case size argument is valid, but most normal cases will fit the GTS, the GTX is the long one.

the 8800GTX will mince that card, it's only two overclocked 7900GTs in there, I'd wager even an 8800GTS could beat it.

Yeah the 8800 GTS does beat it, but only by a little bit. Have fun with your GTX, I wish I had one!
