Hi,

I recently got a DS Lite. I want to be able to download and play hombrew and games on my ds. What is the best way to do this (i.e. Which card should I get?)

Thanks

I heard about the R4DS
but then I heard about the G6DS and the M6 Simply.

Now I am all confused.

There is a huge selection of cards, it sounds like don't really know all that much about it all, so based on that I would recommend the R4DS as it has a very large support base via forums etc. and it is very simple to use.

The M3 DS Simply is identical to the R4DS but recieves slower updates (1-2 days after the R4 update)

I own an R4 and not an M3. I realise that this 'delay' is the only real difference between the R4 and M3. It is pointed out everywhere, but I must mention that this 1-2 day delay really doesnt mean much. The kernel and loaders are very mature and stable, and updates are now only necessary for being able to play the latest releases immediately.

I could elaborate, but the short of it is that having updates 1-2 days earlier makes no difference to most people, and if you are using the R4 for only playing backups and homebrew, you wont even notice the difference.

Just thought I would add that I have the M3 DS Simply and the delay dosn't bother me either :-)
But it is still worth mentioning when recomending the devices.

hello the r4ds and the m3 ds simply are excellent flash carts and are ideal for newbies as they are very simple to set up and have a 100% compatibility for nintendo roms ( games ).

the only other thing you will need to buy is a micro sd memory card 1 or 2 gig japanese kingston ( best quality memory ) is recommended .

thanks

but what about cards that don't need another memory stick?
(like the G6DS). These cards appear to be slightly cheaper.

I have a G6DS Real, and it is my favourite card, 100% game compatibility and no speed issues, and so far i have not had any games not work. (even the M3 and R4 have had some games that needed to be fixed by temporary patch or firmware update)

Homebrew compatibility is not quite as high as the M3DSS or R4DS, and it requires homebrew to be in the root if you want to use the auto-patcher, but i consider these minor issues.

The G6 interface is the nicest I have ever used, and allows seperate settigns for each of your games and is very clear and well presented.

The only real downfall of the G6 is not as many people own it so there is less support available should you need help with it.

thanks.

would you recommend the G6DS or the R4DS considering that I will be mainly using it to play games?

is say, if ur just using it to play games and thats it, then go for whatever that is more of a priority to you, for what you consider better, for space size and cost. decide how much space you want and which one is cheaper.

JUST DON'T ever get a Max Media Dock. It's the easiest item to access, IMO, but it's a female dog to get working, and has VERY low compatibility with DS games. SNES emulators lag, though this might not be possible to get past, and most of the really good homebrew stuff (AmplituDS, DDRlite, DSDoom, etc) don't even work.

Bleh. I'll make a sig later.
