Ive been looking around all day for similar threads to what is happening to me but I haven't seen anything remotely close to this.

I currently have a v14 slim ps2(75001) and also ordered Breaker Pro and a "magic keys 2" or whatever its called on websites now, in hopes of playing my old backups of my ps1 games i made before getting rid of my old ps1 back in the day.

I had some issues installing that final tool, but looking around I saw that taping down the sensor is the easiest way. That is working perfectly actually, I can boot the few games that I tried.

Breaker pro works flawlessly, boots the game just fine. But when I get to the first actual interactive part of the game I notice my controller is acting up. It seems to be randomly firing button presses which differs depending on what game I play.

For example: Castlevania: SOTN, it seems almost every 6th button press(this is actually very consistent) the button fires twice. ie. if i try to enter six letter "a"'s in the name field it puts 7, 2 extra on the sixth. And then the directional buttons do not seem to want to stay pressed down. Trying to run from left to right the character will stop for a split second and keep running, over and over.

Xenogears was the other game I tried. in this game the pause button just keeps firing over and over, even on the title screen!(where I'm very certain you cannot pause the game)

As you can tell this makes the games virtually unplayable. Unplugging the controller stops this from happening, but obvious I cannot play the game without a controller. All my ps1 non-backup games play fine, as do my ps2 games.

Solutions I've already tried:

1) using breaker pro to boot up a non-backup ps1 game(megamanx6) and the game plays perfectly. no controller issues.

2)Unplugging the controller and replugging it numerous times.

3)reburning at a slower speed. Im using alcohol 120%'s 'playstation' setup at 4x. my burner will not display a lower burn speed(maybe a workaround to that?)

4)The burned games have no issues playing in epsxe.

Things I have yet to try:

1)using a ps1 controller(going to tonight if I can get a hold of one from a trade in store)

2) using a ps1 system

What I suspect:

That this is some very very strange copyright protection implemented to stop pirating. I assume I will see the same results if I were to use swap magic and ps2 games.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? and if so what can I do?

I've already voided my warranty by taping down the sensor, so a mod chip is definitely an option, I'm just concerned that it won't help this problem.

You say at the bottom that you might see the same results were you to try swap magic and PS2 backups. Well you should probably try some ps2 backups to see if you do get the same results.

Could just be a breaker pro problem. I have never used it so don't know. Strange problem for sure.

Well I picked up an old psx controller (which is exactly the same sans the pressure sensitive buttons) and I have had 0 issues. Maybe Breaker Pro not reacting well with pressure sensitive functions?

I don't have swap magic currently, but I plan too in the future. Ill try it when I get the chance.

So I guess I'll just leave this as a solution to anyone having this problem. Just use a psx controller for ps1 games on this model of ps2.
