Blank DVDs or CDs not showing up....

Recently i started to burn DVD movies, and a little while after, my computer stopped to rekognise any type of blank media. Does anyone else have this problem? does anyone have a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated, because if i cant fiz it in a few days, my father is hell bent on wiping the system and re-installing windows. I used Nero 7 and DVD shrink, if it is important.

Try uninstalling the controller, reboot and let Windows reinstall it.

My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Click on the + beside IDE Controllers.
Right click on the Secondary and select 'Uninstall'.
This assumes that the burner is on the Secondary - it aught to be -but you can uninstall the Primary too, it does no harm.
Reboot and Windows will reinstall the controller drivers and the burner.
