Different problems with Nero...who can help me?

Hey,
Ik just bought a second-hand PC with a DVD-burner. But i just can't seem to make it work. I updated the firmware and i tried it with 2 different DVD's (Platinum and Philips.
I get different faults....what should i do???

Try checking that the burner is set as 'master' and move it to Port 1 ID 0 (the end of the cable).

Hi, did as you said, but it won't work. I updated the firmware and set it as master. It doesn't help...
is it possible that my Platinum DVD+R's are not supported by the Ricoh DVD+RW MP5125

check out your Burner: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters?DVDn...0&Search=Search
what media are you using? Your drive is at least 4 yrs old! I don't care how many firmware updates you made, it can't possibly be able to keep up with the newer media out there! It's time to upgrade to a new burner..... unless you can find 4x media to burn to!

thanks for the response. So you think it doesn't help if i buy DVD's of TDK or something else?

well take a look at your write speeds: Burn process started at 2.4x (3.324 KB/s) .......this means that if you are trying to burn to an 8x or 16x disk it's only writing at 2.4x unless it's an RW disk. is the media that you are trying to burn to an RW (rewriteable) disk? time for a new burner! and try using better media next time with that new burner..... made in Japan media is the best (Taiyo Yuden can be found in the online stores: supermediastore.com, rima.com, meritline.com, and others). Verbatim is another good brand of media that is top notch. Now with the advent of HD and Blue-ray your burner will become more obsolete in the next year or so! Upgrade to a new burner will do wonders if not fix all your problems!

Thanks for your help. But what I don't understand is:
is there a problem with writing at 2.4x except the writing speed? Isn't there a hardware-issue, or just the wrong DVD+R disks?

your burner is so old that it can't write properly to the higher speed media! that's why I said: I don't care how many firmware updates you made, it can't possibly be able to keep up with the newer media out there! I thought that was explicit enough.

Sorry, this must be a stupid question ;)
Can I burn my 16x DVD+R with a 18x DVD-+burner? Of is the 18x only the maximum speed for writing?
