Hi thanks for reading! I need some advice?
My 30GB ipod fell while I was listening to it. When I picked it up, it had shut itself off. I plugged it into the USB port on my computer. No reaction from the computer. Not even the bubble that says ?there is a highspeed device plugged into a non highspeed hub? (like it usually says).
SO...
I took it apart. I saw that the little brown and white piece that the battery cable clips into had come loose and was rattling around in the case, along with these 2 little metal squares with copper wire around them that were supposed to be soldered on each side of the firewire port (There had been a rattling sound in the case for a while, so I am assuming that those 2 metal squares had been loose are not pertinent to the function of my ipod).
I clipped the battery thingie back into place and plugged the battery back in. Then I plugged the ipod into my computer. Still didn?t work. So then I took the screen off too but then realized that that was stupid. Judging from 1) the fact that my computer doesn?t do anything when I plug the ipod in and 2) the ipod wont do anything either, I am thinking this is a battery issue and hopefully not a hard drive problem.
The battery cable (the thing with the white end) has a bend in it from being reinserted a few times. (*Does the battery come with another one of these? Can and should I buy one?) I have not tried plugging the ipod into an actual wall outlet thingie because I don?t have one. My mom does, but that would require me traveling about an hour (*would that be any different from plugging it into my computer?) The fall happened about 1 month ago, so I am pretty sure the battery has been drained at this point.
I have given it 3 really good tries to fix it and now I am about ready to give up. I got it second hand and would normally just call it a loss BUT I have like 6 days worth of killer music on it, and some of it is hard to find. And no it is not backed up on itunes. Because I am lazy.
SO? Is it worth it to order the battery online and replace it? I have made my own deductions about the battery being the main issue, but I really don?t know much about electronics. Its just a guess. I wouldn?t even call it an educated guess.
I have tried all of the "Select" "Menu" and other button pushing combos. And, no, it is not locked. I really do think, at this point, that I could fix it myself if I knew what the problem was.
