my ram isn't registering at the right size. i had 2 gigs of g skill ddr2 pc 6400 ram ram and i bought a second dimm they are both identical. they have the same latency and timing.when i put the second 2 gig dimm in my ram goes from 2 gigs to 2.50 GB of ram. and it says physical address extension under it. i was under the impression that 32 bit of windows could recognize up to 4 gigs of ram. i may just go with windows 64 git because i have a 64 bit cpu. another funny thing is that my bios sees it as 4 gigabytes.if you know any solution to this or have experienced this and know what to do pleas let my know.

Yup, I think that's your problem. You need to have a 64-bit OS running for it to recognize all 4 GB. Go ahead and get one if you can.

i already have the 24 bit os. i was under the impression that windows xp 32 bit could recognize up to 4 gigs and if you wanted to push any further you needed 64 bit. luckily i have a copy around some where.

As far as I know, you need 64-bit for it see 4 GB and higher. I even did a little google search and it seems to be right.

Here is a link: The 3GB-not-4GB RAM Problem

Anyway, 32-Bit windows can recognize up to approx. 3-3.5GB of RAM, depending on your chipset and how many peripherals you have installed.

A 64-bit OS would see, and make available for use, the whole 4GB. However, most applications these days don't need more then 2GB. If your gaming 2GB is needed, however, few games use anything more then that.

Peace
