I'm a total newb so I decided to use the guide for avi2dvd program, however the movie I want to convert to DVD format is 2.35:1 aspect ratio and the only two options available are 4:3 and 16:9. Is there a different program I should use?

After a bit more reading. I figure that convertxtodvd would be a better option? Am i correct? Or can I get around it in avi2dvd since it's free?

haha, so after playing around with converxtodvd, the result i got was a stretched 2.35:1 to 16:9. Is there any way I can keep the original aspect ratio?

Those are the only 2 options available for DVD compliant files.

Something else is causing your problem. I use both those programs and they both maintain the correct AR. I've converted many 2.35:1 vids with both and they come out correctly (there will be bars top/bottom). Both will automatically choose the correct AR (leave ConvertX on Automatic under 'TV screen'), there should be no need for you to change or choose anything. I would assume if you are having problems it's due to that specific file which is not correctly providing the correct file info.

Oh OK thanks for the help. Everything finally turned out alright. It's in 16:9 format and not stretched, so there are black bands on top and bottom even though its 16:9 to conserve aspect ratio, for anyone else wondering the same thing.

BTW, convertxtodvd is an awesome program!
