Hey there,
Was hoping someone could help.
I have a netgear wireless router, but currently it is setup so it only works whilst the computer is on. The reason for this is because my modem connects via usb, and therefore I could not plug it into the router (as it only has ethernet ports). Is there a way to get my modem running through my router so im able to connect to the internet when the main pc is off?
The router is a Netgear WGR614 v7. Im currently on windows xp. Oh and I haven't been able to get on my router configuration page (I assume this is because of the way I have it setup?)
Thanks for all your help in advance.
Dan.

If you have a USB modem, your PC will have to be on in order to use it.
You will need to get a modem with an ethernet port on it in order to keep your internet connection active with your PC off (so, say, other people can use it). As for why you can't connect to your router I'm not sure, have you been assigned an IP address?

Thanks for the quick reply,
Im able to connect to the router just fine. The only problem was the keeping the internet on whilst computer is off issue, which you have kindly answered. Il just have to leave my computer turned on then from now on.
Thanks again.

Hi, I cant believe that an ISP in the year 2007 provides their customers with only a usb patch!!..........call them and maybe they will give you one free!!

It's still standard for a lot of ISPs to only give out USB modems. Usually the premium service packages give you proper modems, typically the high speed ADSL2 services, because you need decent modems to get enough speed with those!
