Try removing all Java through Add/Remove and then use Verify Java.

thanks for your reply. I cant verify java because it says I dont have any installed.when i try to install it says that the installation package does not exist and that i should verify the package before opening it. it seems like catch 22, i can't verify something that isn't there!

That is strange.
I suggested that site because it has worked for people when the manual install did not.
And usually it is a corrupted old Java preventing.
What operating system are you using? (Vista, XP,SP1/SP2, etc)
I know you'll probably want Java anyways, but you could always try uTorrent for bittorrent until you figure this out.
uTorrent Download.
UTorrent Setup Guide.

Good to hear on the uTorrent.
As far as the Java, I am unaware of any issue with SP2.
So you are OK on that.
I don't know how you tried to install, besides through the verify Java page.
Here is a page with manual download of the online and offline methods.
If you have not tried offline, I would say try that first. Java Downloads.
There is also an error page, where you can check and see if your specific error is listed. Java Error Messages.
Hope something works or helps.

I did find a thread at the Java forums with something that may help.
It seemed to help a number of people who had gotten this error.
It is in reply 3:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=728808
Edit: found some more info later in that thread:
"After encoutnering this error on Java 1.6.0_01 installation, simply go to the directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_01\
There you shoudl find the file: jre1.6.0_01.msi
The MSI file is a Microsoft Installation file format.
Double-click the MSI file to run the installaiton."
I would think (hope) you'll find the file jre1.6.0_02 and its .msi.
This is what the Java site had:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/err..._transforms.xml

I was hoping to hear that!
For a bit, I didn't think this was going to get done.
