Hi I have a dell dimension 9150 and am looking to upgrade my CPU to this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Processor-Intel-...88232163&sr=1-2

I know that my current mobo is socket LGA 775, but does that mean it will work with my system?

Thanx in advance for any help.

System:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ ~ 3.0GHz
4GB Corasair DDR2-800
ASUS P5-Q (iP45 Chipset)
Ati Powercolor HD4850 512MB
Seasonic S12 II 500w PSU
Antec 900

you might be able to for the bus speed but the specs on your dimension says dual core support.

Quad core should work fine since its socket 775 and thats what your mobo is. I would only worry about the power though... A Quad core is also kinda overkill for an old dell...

Just because it's a LGA 775 does not mean it can support all LGA 775 CPUs. For example; this board will not support the 45nm CPUs coming out this winter even though they are LGA 775. Unless of course a new BIOS is released that will allow this which is highly unlikely.

Hell some revisions of the same motherboard wont support quad core. So if it says Dual core and not Quad core you are probably SOL.

i will report back to say wether it is or not. also, for me system, what would be the best CPU (dual core) that costs less than £160?

Depends when you bought it. As a general rule I'd say if you bought it earlier than the middle of 2006, you're out of luck.
