I bought this computer off the internet. Its an AMD custom made gaming computer. I have no clue how to wipe the system. Any of you guys have any ideas? I have an HP, but thats so easy to reboot. So any information would be great.

1. Backup all your files
2. Boot from your windows CD into a recovery console or DOS
3. go into fdisk
4. delete the drive's partition, then reformat it.

That should be all you need. The process is easier if you can use an old 98/Me floppy disk, but if you can't, don't worry.

I am not sure that backing up all of the files is a good idea, if the he is going to copy them back when he does a reinstall of the OS.

One of those files may contain the virus that he has now. If he hasn't saved anything new, to the hard drive, then there is no need to back up anything.

If he has, then the use of a virus software is in order.

That's true, I forgot to make clear that you need to abandon all the infected folders.

If you just want to delete the virus, use Prevx. It did an excellent job of fixing my computer that was unbootable in normal mode without having virus after virus execute IE windows.
