since this would be off topic for my ram thread i added a new one. anyways im wondering, when i add in ram, i just stick it in the slot and im done right?
also, im planning on adding 2 sticks of 256mb each and i currently have 1 256mb, with 2 extra slots. do the two that im going to add in have to be identical? or the same in anyway? or do they just have to be the right type but not the same brand?

If you want to run dual channel they have to be the same. Otherwise align up the notches and stick em in!

dragnandy, what is the make & model# of your computer or motherboard to see what you have as i think you have sdram & not ddr ram?

yes i did run some programs recommended by users and i know what ram i use. i use a SDRAM pc133 168pin DIMM.
so if i have 3 slots, all of them can be DIFFERENT brands of ram as long as they are SDRAM pc133 168pin DIMM?

usually yes but not always. try to stick to same manufacturer as to current stick. the stick of ram you have now, is the ram on both sides of the stick or on 1 side?

im not quiet sure ur question ddp, but on the one stick of ram i have now, there are chips on both sides. is that what you mean?

yes. any ram you get then make certain the ram chips are on both sides of the stick as some boards might have a problem reading the full value if ram chips are on 1 side as in half of the total ram. say ram stick of 256meg on 1 side might be read as 128meg on some motherboards

but awhile back, i also had a 128mb before i had the 256mb, and it only had chips on one side of the stick. does that mean my motherboard can read both sticks with chips on one side and sticks with chips on both sides?

There really isn't any guarantied way of knowing unless you try it. Best thing you can do is just stick all the memory in and make sure both the BIOS and Windows sees the full amount of memory. Then, you will want to run MemTest86 to make sure all the memory tests good and working together. Its a free program and if you can run it for like 30min without any errors then all should be good.

it really depends on the board & on the ram whether the ram is seen properly. the fact you had both types with no problem then you should be alright.

when i was looking for some ram to upgrade, i found that one of them said that the ram is 64 x 64 high density. does anybody know what that means?

I think high density means that all the RAM is on one side of the stick.
