Hello all. After copious problems with port forwarding and NAT errors I seem to have apparently discovered a solution. I know many, many people are having problems with this, even after following all of the port forwarding guides and most probably reading reams of information on how to fix it without success. I was in that same boat until recently, I'm no newbie to the scene by any means, but thought I'd share my solution with everyone else in case it can help.
Anyways, as suggested, 'tweaking' the torrent software with one of the many guides around didn't help, following portforward.com didn't help, reading everyone else's suggestions didn't help, turns out the problem was with my router. I actually have a Zyxel 660HW-61 so I have no idea how many people this will apply to, but as it turned out, DOWNGRADING my firmware fixed things. I updated to the latest, which everyone suggests (usually correctly) is the right idea, but after speaking to tech support I had to downgrade TWICE to a more stable firmware version to get this working properly.
In short, if you've tried everything else but are still having problems along the lines of what I've described above, it's most probably an issue with the router, so either try downgrading the firmware (do it one version at a time), testing your connection with a different router or straight-up ADSL modem to isolate the problem, or replacing the router altogether.
As far as I'm concerned this seems to be the only other possible solution that people may not have explored after correctly forwarding ports, adding exceptions to hardware and software firewalls, and correctly setting up your torrent software
