I've always thought Riteks were ok were ok and remember when they were great. They are so horrible now. Office Depot discs seemed to sometimes be RICOHJPN and those are pretty good, but my last few batches have been RITEK-F16-01 and they are among the worst discs I have even used. Even the RITEK-P16 codes weren't this bad.
With 3 different burners one won't recognize them at all, the 2nd gives bad burns over half the time and 3rd burner only burns them at 4x. BTW 2 of the burners are only a year old with the latest firmware.

i was going to asked you if you had the latest firmware but looks like you do
Ritek has alway been considered 2 tier media, its ok but not great
thats why most of use push using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim (way less problems)

Ritek must be going up & down in quality again. Either that or your firmware doesn't know the write statagy for these discs. I'd suggest staying with with Ricohjpn when you can find it or Verbatim. Online TY is your best bet disc.
I've never had these newer Riteks however I have used Ritek F-1 & it gave good results for 16x media.

I'm just trying to stick with Verbatims from now on. I can usually get them locally at Microcenter for a reasonable price. I'm not much into getting discs shipped, but that's just me. There's nothing wrong with getting them shipped for those who like do that.

Ritek is a DVD & CD manufacturer who market not only for their own name (Ridata) but they also make discs for other name brand companies. The P16 & F1 you ask about are 16x media codes for Ritek DVD's.

for the Ricoh i'm pretty sure Memnock means RICOHJPNR03 (as i'm sure there's a thread here somewhere about Office Depot and Ricoh's) in which case i can recommend them very highly indeed, i can't fault them after a few thousand burns/playback/re-backups of...

This is not a quality issue as much as different dyes used in discs intended for both 16X as well as the goofy 18X and 20X nonsense. The P is for an azo-cyanine dye requested by Philips; F is for Fuji's Oxonol dye. These are 16X discs, and it sounds as though you had success with 8X but not with the 16X versions. Some drives produce excellent recordings with these M-codes; some drives don't, even with the latest firmware. Firmware only fixes things if the firmware writers intended to fix them.

I bought a 50 pack of Maxell 16x that had the RT (for Ricoh) in the part number. No spacer on top of the discs & they still turned out to be Ritek discs. I was expecting Ricoh so I could try them out!!
So what do I look for in a Maxell pack to get Ricoh DVD's?

'fraid that's something i can't help you with, i buy them from a UK outlet http://www.svp.co.uk who sell the Maxell's as Ricoh specifically, also they come shrinkwrapped with no tub so no specific packaging either.

Yeah I've had those. They worked great, but the ones I'm talking about are RITEK-F16-01. They suck like I said. I wish they still the RICOHJPNR03. Are they any way to tell from packaging? I doubt I could be that lucky. Anyway I going to renew my Sam's Club membership shortly and they always have Verbatims for a good price.
