I've done a lot of searching and read a lot of posts to try to find my answer but so many times the problem is software/hardware or disk specific.
I recently updated my nero to 7.5.9.0 after hearing so often that it was a good stable version, after having a lot of freeze ups and stuff with the older version. Since the update (and somewhat before) I've been having a number of read errors when using Burning Rom which I use for both data and Video usually with success but now seem to get errors on every second disk.
I know disk quality is very important but simply can not find good Japanese disks where I have looked so have to settle for the usual brand names made in Taiwan. I've tried three different brands (Memorex, Fuji and Verbatim +RWs) now and still have problems every second or third disk despite only burning at 1/2 or 1/4 of Max speed meaning burning at 8 and 4 times with the +R disks and 4 times with the +RWs.
I have a one year old higher end Dell computer with with an E6600 dual core duo processor and 2 gig of memory. Running WINXP SP2. The HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H31N Writer has firmaware current to six months ago and the only update was for something not necessary unless you had problems.
I would like to post one of my logs but don't know if that is permissable without getting permission. I'm wondering if a setting might have been altered when I updated the Nero.
Appreciate any help this great team can offer.

welcome to afterdawn....... and of course you can post your log! just remember to take out your serial # usually staring with 1A or 1C! Also post the complete whole nero log so we can see exactly what's going on!

your burn was successful! it's your Data verification that is causing trouble! did you try playing your disk? did it play ok? I never use the Data verification to check on the disk.... the best test is to play it!

Hmm interesting, thanks for your reply which as usual for me brings up a couple issues.
I did find a B110 Firmware on Dell which wasn't there before. I can only assume its newer than the B109 you linked too and as I recall the dates differed by only a couple weeks.
When you say shut off your virtual drives do you mean disable them for now but they can be enabled later when required? I have disabled them for now through Device Manager either way but I do use them sometime.
Real wierd but I don't have that line IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in my
Device manager and I have a vague recall of dealing with that same DMA and IDE thing in the distant path. It may be so distant as to being on my previous computer but nevertheless I don't even have that line.
As to the data verification I just took them at their word. I never used to see those messages till recently (but with the previous Nero also of late). I've never really checked when they said there was problems because I assumed it knew what it was talking about and would burn again at a slower speed and shut down anything I may have missed. They generally appeared during the latter half of the check. That's more interesting information that I appreciate.
Can you shed any light on the ATA/ATAPI controllers?

I've looked all over the computer and expanded the Device Manageer every which way but I can't get to that IDE controller. So wierd.
