T-mobile Wing short - hardware or software?

Hi,
I have a weird problem with my T-mobile wing that started this weekend.
When I turn on the phone the highlighted selection on the today screen like I'm holding down the down navigational button. If I hit up once it stops. If I try putting the phone into standby (hitting the power key once) the phone flickers and turns back on - like it does if you hold down right and hit the power button. So I can't put it in standby.
When I hold down the power button, the confirmation dialog switches between yes and no repeadedly, the same way it would if you held down down and it cycled through the buttons. If I cancel and hit the start menu, it quickly scrolls down through the start menu over and over.
This sucks because it messes with being able to standby, lock, and other functions of the phone.
The weird thing is it doesn't effect everything. Like if I open up a document in notes, it doesn't automatically scroll down to the bottom of the document. Hitting up seems to fix it for a while too in the start menu, power dialog, etc.
Do you guys think this is a short in my down button, or some kind of software glitch? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Ok now I'm thinking my power button has a short which trips the down on event without sending down off. If I hit down again it stops and doesn't short until I hit powere again. :(
