cpu type: toshiba satellite u200
model #: PLUA0C-PT300E

well, the title pretty much says it. when i start up, windows does not load and i am left to enter in the bios password before it works.

i found this link though search, but i am unable to try it b/c this laptop does not have a slot for a 1.44mb diskette.

personally, i've never seen a 720kb diskette. there is a smaller slot on the side of the laptop, but i'm not sure what kind of media goes in there. can someone please clarify as to whether this slot is for a 720kb diskette? if it is, will the method in the above link work?

the pic beside the slot just shows a diskette with the letter "CB" on it.

help?

Just to clarify (i'm not correcting, just adding info), 720 disks were the same physical size, but were not doubel sided, hence only half the storage. If you put tape over the hole (not the write protect hole, the other one) you will be able to format it to 720 (not in Win2k3 Server or Vista, though). Win XP, Win2k Server, and any older OS should be able to format a 720k disk.

As far as the other slot, the documentation for you lappy should have a description of all slots. If not, hit the website for the manufacturer and you should be able to find documentation.

with the link i provided about to the other bios thread...

it states that only a 720k or 1.44mb floppy can be used.

if no slots are present, is there another option?
