bass improvement tips needed

i have a harman / kardon hk 3380 amplifier, two 12' mitzu speakers (kinda cheap but deliver good sound), two speakers i made out by combining two 12' MA audio subs and two cone tweeters, and a 1505n audiobahn 15' sub
i just want some tips to make my soundsytem sound better, as i have a friend with a sony genezi which sometimes sounds better, but i'm frustrated as her soundsystem is worth half or a third part mine is, maybe the box design isn't the appropriate
i just wan't to improve the bass, as the tweeters are sounding perfectly, just some bass tips
please don't tell me to check my connections as they are well connected

Do you have your speakers set to "Small", in the receiver's setup menus? That's where they should be set, when using a subwoofer. Also, make sure the sub is "ON" or enabled, in the setup menus. What do you have the crossover for the sub set at, in the setup menus? Pretty good subs, are usually set at 80Hz. You can try the 100Hz setting, to see if you like it better. Other than adjusting the knobs on back of sub, there's not much more to do.
If you're still not happy with the bass you're getting, you may just need a more powerful sub...........

ok maybe i forgot to mention some details, my soundsystem is not a home theatre, so i don't have any menus, it is an amplifier, so i can't set the "small" settings, my subwoofer has a problem, when i bought my amplifier, the guy who sold it to me told me the two subwoofer outputs were preamplified, so i didn't need an active subwoofer, so i bought the audiobahn one, when i got home and tested it, i realised he lied to me, so i had to connect it to a speaker output
i'm saving to buy another amplifier just for the sub, but in the meantime, i would like to hear some tips, like porting the box, aiming the speaker to a wall, etc...
my sub is really, REALLY BIG, so i don't need to buy a new one, i'm guessing the box is the problme, my friend system subwoofer might be 10' max, maybe 8', and it delivers some sounds deeper than mine.
maybe post a link where i can see how to desing the box, material, ports, wind effects, etc...
