Hi, I have a fairly nice computer and I could run games like battlefield 2 amazing well. I recently went from a 15" LCD to a 20.1" LCD and now everything has to be toned down a lot if I want to play without lagging... I am looking for a new video card I could get that wouldn't cost me over $200 and that could run most high end games at a resolution of 1400x1050, on highest detail, and with ZERO lag.

Well since you have AGP, a 7800/7600 would do fine...

Wont play Crysis on max though... Only a 8800 will.

Really? You have a socket 775 P4 at 3.0Ghz? Did they even make those? What mobo do you have?

Well that one actully has a decent cooler on it, or so it seams. it looks just like the power cooler, and judging from the reviews, it doesnt have any cooling problems either. The AGP version did, not the PCI-e version, which is the one I recommended.

Yeah exactly, and it doesn't have cooling problems because the TEC is conspicuously absent.

Stupid TEC. When do they come in handy anyway?
I hear the Vigor Monsoon II keeps the CPU below 0C, but I dont know how that would work since it has a fan... No watercooling involved.

The smartass answer is 'a miracle'.
The realistic answer is that it depends what you mean by high. If you mean maximum detail, tough luck you can't do it. If you mean medium to high detail with a few settings off, you could probably do it with an X1950XT, which cost around $180 from newegg.

To play crysis on high, you need a 8800GTX and a C2D processor and 2gigs of ram.

Not necessarily, I wager I could manage it fine at 1024x768 with my X1900XT, and a lot of people play games at that resolution (to my amazement). Time will tell I suppose. I think what we should reiterate is that 1280x1024 on high is about as far as you could go (or 1440x900 for widescreen users) with today's graphics hardware.

Since that's what the average top end PC has these days, he's just picked out benchmark components. At a 3Ghz overclock, my E4300 will do it fine, and an X1900XT isn't too far off an 8800GTS, so I think I'll manage fine, but I have to say Waymon, I think you'll want a new CPU before you play it...

Thanks for all your help guys, I looked into the X1950XT and it looks suitable, I was wondering if there was anything a little better than that for under $250 (also a gecube), and since I'm only familiar with nvidia what would the x1950xt and something higher than that be comparable to?

The 8600 will probably run Crysis with medium/low settings, but mostly medium. Their are videos on youtube that show people playing with the 8600 in the Crysis Beta.

I know sam, my P4 sucks, and all of them do when it comes to gaming. I'll be getting a Q6600 G0 stepping though and probably oce it to at least 3.0 Ghz. I was looking more into the 8950GX2, and I've found out that there isnt even clarification on it yet, so it probably wont be released (if it ever will be) before or around Christmas. It looks like the 8800GT will be that card. However, I did read that Ati is releasing a duel GPU card in November, so I might trade to that card if their isnt a 8950GX2.

If I'm honest, ATI's dual GPU card effort is highly likely to be inferior to any SLI-based product. Crossfire is still a very patchy technology, whereas SLi has improved greatly since it was first released. I would be highly surprised if either company makes such a card before the end of the year though.

Screw all the budget stuff.. What would be the BEST card for the money, like it doesn't have to be the absolutely best card ever, but what card do u get the MOST bang for your buck? anybody know?
