HD2900XT, for the same reasons as above.
In all honesty, they're quite similar, have a look through some benchmarks.

The 1Gb model or the 512mb model of the 2900? The 8800GTX is faster, but only in some games, and it has an extra $100 pinned to it too. I was going to get the 2900XT 1Gb, just because it has 1GB of memory for upcoming games, and is cheaper than the 8800.

he said Viper, so I'm pretty sure he means the 1GB, since they were the first company to bring that version out.
Is the 1GB 2900 still cheaper than the 8800? If so, that makes it a lot more viable, I had no idea. I still wouldn't buy one because of the ludicrous power consumption, but at least it opens up people's options now...

Yeah, the 2900 does take more power than a 8800, and in most tests it doesnt perform as well. I would wait for the 2950X2X to come out, which is still a while away, but it is a duel GPU model that will definetly be better than the 8800GTX, even the Ultra. I'm sure nVidia will have a card by then that will put ATi to shame again though...
The 2950 comes out in november according to some articles I read, so maybe check that out.

Perhaps, but it'll be based on Crossfire, and therefore be rubbish. Don't get me wrong, I usually prefer ATI's products, but there's not a bit of evidence out there to suggest that Crossfire can compete with SLI.

How come crossfire is so bad? And besides, if the card is a duel gpu, like the 7950GX2, why would you need crossfire? The card will be molded into 1 piece, even though it is duel gpu. Its not like you will need a cross fire bridge or something like that...

No, but the whole principle on which it works is crossfire. It's just two cards on one PCB.

ya i do mean 1GB im gonna be getting one of these by x mas i don't want to get a bad one but there both good

The man with the highest score in the X1950XT thread uses Catalyst drivers. They really aren't as bad as nvidia fanboys make out!
I hope he was using XP and Directx9 for crysis with AA, since Directx10 doesn't support AA yet!

The crysis beta only uses dx9, its poorly optomized as well, so you can expect a fairly good increase of fps in the demo. Also, that was on high setttings, not ultra, because ultra settings are disabled for the beta.

The HD2900XT is an ATi card right? I think it's a DX9 but from what i heard thw 1GB model is like one of the best DX9 cards (from what i heard from the people in this forum) but the 8800 GTX is a DX10 number, meaning better graphics? (without AA?)
Still, if i'd want to buy a good graphics card (which will most likely be a DX10 card, i don't wnat to stay with DX9) i'd get either an 8600 (512 mb) or a 8800 (640 mb). But, as for the ATi card, i think it's one of the best DX9 cards so if you want a good DX9 card go with that one.

Oh. Maybe i was mistaking the 2900 for the 1900...
Anyway, i just looked at 2900's in newegg. Most of them cost 490 bucks. And the cheapest GTX i could find was 500 bucks. So 2900 XT costs about the same as a GTX (the cheapest ones, atleast) So 2900 is cheaper then GTX, but i don't know if it's good since i don't follow ATi.
And i didn't see any Viper branded 2900 XTs.
