DVD player doesn't like dark DVD-RWs - other source?

I've been using Memorex or Sony (can't remember sitting here at work which it is but I think it is Sony)DVD-RWs for watching my Netflix movies so I can send em back faster. Our JVC DVD player (about 4-5 years old) has problems identifying that there is a disk in the player when I use the RWs - work fine with everything else - premades, DVD Rs, etc. But with an RW, put the disk in...NO DISK, pop it open, spin the disk a little, put it in, NO DISK, etc. until it finally recognizes it. Sometimes done this 25 times before it recognizes there is a disk there. Doesn't matter if its a disk I have used a hundred times or one fresh out of the package. I've been told this is because the disks are dark in color and the laser has problems identifying that there really is a disk in the player. Anyone know if this would be the case and if so is there a solution? Are different brands of DVD-RWs lighter so I could switch to a lighter color and have better luck with it recognizing them?

Any feedback appreciated!

We really don't need to know where you got the movies. Copying rentals is a no-no (piracy) & against forum rules. Check the rules out in my sig.
