PlaYING MUSIC FROM COMP THRU STEREO

What i used to do, was plug in the cd to tape jack in the comp (where the speakers would go ) and play the tape in my stereos tape deck, but my tape deck broke and now all i have are the input cord thignys in the back of the stereo, i tried to be all ghetto about it and splice the cord from a headphone to some other cord that looked like it fit in the back of the stereo, but that didnt work. I need to know what cords to get and all that shyt. thanks
