i hope the moderator doesn't mind me posting this here since it does deal with actual dvd's but anway .. i keep all my dvd's in a book like 99% of people do...but i've noticed that after sometime..sometimes months or years.. the backing on the folder sheets seems to adhere to the disc..mainly near the end of the disc making them unrippable..has any had this problem & is there any solution to this???

i store most of my DVD's in the same sort of cases, and mine are all cheapy cases, but fairly well made. I've never come across bits of the folder sticking to the discs, that's odd and unlucky. (slight tangent here.. when i lived on the river all my cases - the same exact cases as i have now - all lived on the floor of the boat which is basically permanently about 12inches under the water level ie permanently cold. The cases could sit there for many months at a time without even being opened, and when opened you'd get a bit of condensation from the warm air meeting the cold air inside the cases. Luckily no damage ever became any of the cases or discs. Anyway, long story short, i'm guessing heat has made the cases stick like that for your discs, and i suppose your only option is to remove the discs and cut away the bit of folder from the folder, ie lifting the discs out with a bit of folder still stuck on. Then you need some way of easing the bit of folder off the dvd (i'm assuming you mean the topside of the discs which'll be a bit easier than the bottom..)

crap maybe i should try a cooler place ..the white part of the folder adheres to the discs..like the clothy part.

Try a hairdryer, heat (not too hot) then peel back the sheet. Try "Goo Gone" or lighter fluid to remove any residue. Wash your disc with mild dishsoap and rinse with tepid water. Dry with a soft cloth, center to outside.

I store my discs (backups) in binders and have never had this problem. I store upright not horizontal.

Isn't the recording layer in between the polycarbonate layers of a DVD?

How big are these pieces of folder? Because if they are really small and thin they probably wouldn't produce enough jitter to make the disc unreadable

The pieces shouldn't be affecting the recording layer, which as I said before, is sandwiched between polycarbonate.

What brand of DVDs had you been using? Because its possible that the dyes may have eroded simply due to time and climate conditions...
