I want to get a computer with a intel pentium 4 proccesor. or something with a 3.0 GHz proccesor, 1GB of ram, something like a 80GB HD. But i want it to be a laptop. Desktops are ok, but i like the portability of a laptop. So if anyone can give me some advice on what kind of computer i should get, or if i should just go with the desktop. so if you have any links were i could find some good computers that arent a million dollars, it would be appreiciated. THX

Personally i like desktops better. No they are not portable but you have much more potential to upgrade them. A laptop you pretty much get what you get and in less then 6 months it will be out of date with not much that you can upgrade.

And if you want one for cheap, and want the most "bang for your buck" then the only way to go is to build one rather than buying a premade system. You can get a better system by buying good parts then with a premade system of the same value.

And with just a slight bit of technical knowledge, and patients pretty much anyone can build a system. I built my last one after my Dell started to get slow and still do not regret it. If you are scared of putting in the motherboard, CPU and such just buy a barebone system and then buy the right graphics, video cards and so on. It will usually be an ok system.

I would look for somthing with specs like this system. Hi-Def audio, Real good graphice card (GeForce 7600GT or above) Memory is DDR2 800 which is good although i would prefer a 1GB stick to having 2 512's. Core2Duo processor will work better for most things then the P4. And a 250GB SATA hard drive whicg will be faster than an IDE style. And for better upgrading look for one that has more than one extra PCI-E 16X slot.

it will all be there in the motherboard manual. Most of the wiring is very simple as it will only fit one place on the mobo. Same goes for most other components.
The only part that i found somewhat confusing is the million tiny wires that come from the case itself for things like your power light, usb ports, audio ports and so on. They all went on a ling pin header and you had to look real hard to find where they went. The rest was a breeze.

here are some personal suggestions.

MSI 975X Platinum Power Up Edition Motherboard (8 channel high-def audio on board run with Realtek drivers)

Enermax 620 watt power supply

Intel Core2Duo 2.13GHz processor (LGA 775) can easily overclock this to run at 2.4GHz and save some money.

XFX Geforce 7600GT Graphics Card (PCI-E 16X)

Gigabyte Poseidon case (tooless design for easier assembly)

Crucial Technologies Ballistix PC6400 2GB RAM pack (240 pin DDR2 800 Dual Channel)
