I bought a acer aspire 3002 laptop used with a AMD sempron,40 GB hd,256mb DDR for my son.The computer hd had been cleaned out and the original software installed. There is no sound with the speakers or head phones.I have checked and the video card(realteck AC97) is working properly ,says the computer. The volume is turned up all the way.I had windows check for updated drivers and they are current.Any ideas?

Make sure that the volume control is not muted.

Have you checked to see if the speaker plug is plugged in all the way?
Have you got it plugged into the right port?

Not external speakers, the ones on the laptop.Plugging head phones into the headphone plug doesn't work either.

You could try installing the drivers again, but it sounds more like some setting somewhere has the sound muted.

You are welcome, but I haven't helped you solve the problem yet. I haven't dropped in today, except for about a minute.

I have an ACER 3690 and when I tried to install the blue tooth driver, it killed the Audio Realtech card... It doesn't even show up in device manager. I do have a PCI device that there is no driver for, but can't get it to find the sound card.
Any suggestions? Out of warranty, darn it.
