Define "doesn't know it's even there" - I'm struggling to envisage what sort of problem you're having...

Usually, u might have to install the disk that came with the card first then put the card in. Thats the way i had to do on my XP pc. Disable your onboard graphics first though i do believe. Or, read the instructions. It should tell you what to do.

i have to have the graphics card pluged in to install the software and drivers. if i try disabling the inbuilt video chip, it starts beeping loudly at me.
<edit> and the instructions don't tell me anything about this.

Yes. Certain cheap brands of Power supply put out a lot less than they say they do.

Hmm, you shouldn't have any issues with that PSU...
Where did you buy the Radeon 9550 from?

You've tested it then? Because I wouldn't take the seller's word for it.
What motherboard have you got? There may potentially be some settings wrong in your BIOS.

This one?

That motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot. How are you attaching it?

I've looked up the 845GV and it does indeed have an AGP slot, but only 4x. It may provide the wrong voltage for the card. Older AGP boards used a different voltage to the standard that's now used. 1.5V versus 0.8V.

Yes, but as I've stated, if it's not compatible with both voltages, it may not work since the voltage of this motherboard may differ to the one of the board you tested the card in.
