When I use software to rip dvds (i've tried this with AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter) to my HD, I will get an I/O device error when trying to back up a copy to my HD. I'm positive this isn't a software issue, but I could be wrong. I get a detailed message when using DVD Decrypter and if it would help I can post a screen of it later (I'm on a different computer right now).
This is a new DVD burner. Its an LG brand, with lightscribe.
I can analyze the DVD just fine, but when backing it up it quits after a minute or sooner and gives me an error. Then when I take out the disk and put it back in it wont even read it correctly unless I restart. And only last night it would not even read a normal CD correctly (it would display what the cd was but it wouldn't let me read it.
So do I have a bad drive? could it be dirty (even though its brand new, my room is pretty dusty)? Could it be BIOS settings? Installed wrong? I have it on the second IDE channel as master. Also, my motherboard randomly will lose data from CMOS and I have to reenter it and I dont even know if it is saving my settings.
I'm on the verge of putting together a new pc, but for now I really want to be able to get this to work until I have the funds to replace everything.
It sounds to me like your motherboard needs a new battery.
It uses the battery to keep your CMOS data as well as keep the motherboards clock (the one you see in the BIOS) at the right time.
Try reconnecting the drive to the motherboard, make sure its a clean connection and that its fully seated on both ends of the cable (i.e. on the motherboard connection as well as the drive).
