I use VLC as my media player.
Under 'Video' if 'Aspect Ratio' is selected the A.R can be changed - I assume that other media players can do the same.

I have some videos on my computer that I have downloaded and stuff, there all different kinds that I have avi, wmv, .... so forth. Almost all of them are 16:9 is there a program that u can use to make them 4:3 for a regular tv so I can burn it to a dvd as a 4:3?

If the source is 16:9 and the TV is 4:3 then they should be put in letterbox on the screen.
Unless it's in a letterbox, the image will look 'zoomed in' and parts are lost or the picture is distorted.

http://dl.afterdawn.com/vsoDivxToDVD_setup_v0.5.2b.exe
Import the file(s) (AVI, WMV,MPEG, VOB)
Output (standard DVD file format) to a folder on the HDD.
Set 'Aspect' to 4:3 (if you have a regular tv)
Set 'Standard' to NTSC (if you live in North America)

Burn dvd with 'ImgBurn'

http://www.imgburn.com/

Run ImgBurn
Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.

both the source and the TV are 16:9. Its only WMP that puts the
black bars in (this is my preferred method of watching) if i watch using media centre or any other media player i have its fine, its only doing it in WMP.

I have tried adjusting the settings in WMP but they have no effect.

Im only having the problem with dvds i have ripped. any torrents i download are absolutely fine and fill the whole screen i just cant understand why its doing it with the files i have ripped myself.
