I have been using DVD+R 4X for recording movies and shows and lately I it is harder to find this blank media. Do they not make 4X anymore and does it matter what I use to burn things on to watch on my DVD player?

It shouldn't matter. 4X is hard to come by these days, hell, even 8X is hard to come by. If your burner can't burn at 16X it will just burn at a slower speed which is usually going to be fine. I burn my 16X media at 8X and my burns are flawless.

yeah, same here. i still have shedloads of 8x media on the shelves but for the longest time i don't even check what speed (or even which exact discs) go into the burners anymore, i just pick anything up off the shelves and burn at 8x.

booperq- As they other gentlemen have said ! 4X media is somewhat rare because almost all the new burners are 16 to 20X so most of the media you'll find will probably be 16x or possibly 8x though even 8X is hard to come by. You may as stated by the others burn 16x at lower speeds like 8x or 8x Media at 4x provided the disc give you good results at those speeds ! Your best bets at finding more 4x media if you really want it is to shop Stores that carry Blank DVD media but don't sell alot of it like Drugstores ( Rite-aids , CVS, walgreens ect.. ) , Some walmarts & Sears stores Perhaps as well ! - Your other choice would be an Online retailer such as -Supermediastore.com , Meritline .com, Rima.com ect... And I would stick with a recognizable brand like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Perhaps Ritek & or Ricohjpn ? I would avoid anything that's mystery Media ! Other than that perhaps ebay if you are into the Ebay Thing ? Hope I was of some help ! good luck & happy burning Ciao!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, thanks for the info. I always use a brand name and just wanted to make sure that I can go pick a pack of blank DVD's at my local store and get 8X or 16X.

Best Buy stores were still carrying the verbatim 4x digital movie quality discs. These are silver and black with a picture of a movie reel on them.

If you have a bestbuy close to you, then you can check them out. They still may have some leftover 4x media verbs. They do carry the 8x digital movie quality discs, but very pricy:
