Can anyone point me in the direction of a good lcdtv that would be good not only for movies but for gaming as well? i know some tvs brag about being a "Gamers tv" but dont seem to see a difference between them and others.. should i look for certain specs or hookups? im looking for 50"+, and would PREFER to keep it brand name (Sony, Sharp, Phillips, Toshiba, Samsung, etc). thanks for any help in advance!

Response time is a big issue for gamers. Most larger LCD TVs double as computer monitor. The specs should give you the response time in milliseconds (for example 8ms repsonse time). The lower/faster the response time, the less likely for any video lag. For video, depending on your equipment, be sure you get one with at least 1 HDMI input for best Hi-Def quality. I have 2 on mine, one for HD-DVD player and one for HD cable box. Also, check the contrast ratio of the TV. Plasma and DLP TVs usually have the higher contrast ratios, but my Samsung LCD has 3000:1 contrast ratio and it looks great. Also, for HI-Def, 1080p/1080i is best picture, but mine is 720p and it looks great. You get into higher price range with 1080p/i TVs. If I had to choose, stick with Samsung for first choice and Sony for 2nd choice. If there is a budget, Sharp Aquous is also a good option.

right... i know the lower response the better.. so thats good. I dont have any HDMI components NOW, but i would imagine i will in the future.. unfortunately i have an older 360, but im sure my next hd player will have one.. so i will make sure i get at least 1 hdmi port.. i DO NOT want a plasma.. im set with LCD for sure.. and im definitely going 1080p for future proof capabilities at least.. so i think ive got my specs covered.. i was just more or less looking for specific MODELS of the main brands out there that were good or recommended for gaming.. after checking prices i think i may need to keep it under 50" but ideally id like a 50"+ lcd.. but i want to keep it main brand.. thanks for the help in advance!

this question has always been stuck in my head when I was considering buying a tv. For some reason Sharp had the best specs and prices IMO (looking at specwise). I'm no expert but when I asked others on another forum, they were telling me Sharp's response time as well as other companies lie about their response time. They said this is the response time in extremely ideal situations not all the time! can anyone comfirm this? This is because different companys test their response time differently, this is why they have differences (so i was told).I was a noob searching for a tv and thats just what appealed to me (specs, price, and looks).
