Got an Emac, i then bought Brand new hard drive in it, (blank HDD)Old one made noise, broken.. I got OS X 10, and i need to install it on the E mac.

i know for most that very easy, but i have never installed an Operating system on a mac before.

i DL'ed the mac OSX 10 (2.45 gigs), now this file is a DMG format. i take it that this is a Mac image.

i then tried to burn this stupid image from a pc using magic ISO, using the bootable option on the software.

i was told macs automatically read, find... not like PC where u have to configure boot sequence then re-format then install XP or whatever

is there something i have to do to make the Mac to read the CD or am i just doing this all wrong, or using bad software.????

School me on how this work guys .

Hello, mitoWe:

If you're using a PC to burn, you'll need dmg2iso; available here:

http://vu1tur.eu.org/tools/

1.) Convert your dmg to an iso with dmg2iso on your PC.

2.) Burn the iso to DVD, using your PC, with your burning software.

3.) Insert the burned DVD, containing the Mac OS, into your Mac.

4.) When the DVD appears on your Mac desktop, restart your Mac while holding down the C key.

5.) Follow the installation instructions.

Cheers

I tried to DL dmg2iso from the link you gave me and that doesn't work, i might have to go fishing for that i suppose, the exe. file flashes something really fast in the MS-dos black screen mode then goes away, it doesn't do any thing. Now, you told me to hold down C but i don't have any OS installed on the MAc (blank Hard drive) so it would never even show on the macs desktop. do i still hold down C??

thank you so much David456 i appreciate it

If your hard drive is blank, you could format it with the Mac OS Restore CD/DVD that should have came with your Mac. Otherwise, yes, hold down the C key while starting up your Mac, and your Mac will boot up from the Mac OS install DVD - the installer will then format your hard drive.

once your booted to the cd/dvd you need to open disk utilities and format the drive. It will seem like there is no drive installed unless you do that first, since its a new drive with no partitions.
