Trying to back up a new disk, no obvious marks on it, no scratches...

When it has started copying from original, it fails in all copy programs reporting a "Cyclic Redundancy Check" and I have no option but to abort.

Any way of sorting this so the disc copies fully?

Thanks in advance.

Hi bilbosh
What software are you using? Movie you're backing up?
The program you're using may be outdated to handle the copy protection and that would be another reason for the crc error.

If you not using DVDFab HD Decrypter give that a go. It's a free ripper that's still updated
to handle the latest stuff.

Still a no go then may have a bad press. If you have another drive you can rip from try that one - some are better at ripping the 'bad' spots then others.

Wanted to backup Heroes Series 1 Disk 3.

The HD Ripper won't do DVD5 size though, so will ahve to try something else.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Once you rip it w/ DVDFab HD you can then compress it with something like DVD Shrink or Nero's Recode.

Which programs are you using?

Thanks Binkie. had to switch on a previously unlnown option in it (Enabled PathPlayer) and that allowed the rip to be successful.

I then used Shrink to burn.

Cheers.

Good deal - glad to hear you got it backed up.
Yeah PathPlayer is a new option in DVDFab - here's a bit on it:

@binkie7

binkie i've read this thread and the link you provided to pathplayer, and the link to cdfreaks about pathplayer. they mention about it. and a few issues. i had 1 w/it w/the previous version of dvdfab hd. it popped up w/a window saying it needed to be enabled, but there was also another window asking for info about the source that didn't rip. that was to be sent to dvdfab so they could iron out any bugs.

anyhow, that threw me off a bit. what would you guys suggest would be the recommended setting for pathplayer so that dvdfab hd can rip to its full potential? can you guys put together some kind of set-up guide or reply w/suggestions on ways to not have too many issues w/pathplayer?

i prefer main movie only w/out subtitles. you know my method. transcode w/shrink. build and burn w/imgburn.

i think something geared toward this aside from the guides on dvdfab hd can really b helpful to others.

Hi dr_ml422
That's a great idea to have a new guide on this new feature w/ DVDFab.
I only use DVDFab occasionally - I mainly use AnyDVD to remove the copy protection so I probably wouldn't be the best at giving recommended settings on PathFinder.
I just have mine set at the default one - Enable PathPlayer when necessary.

hopefully 1 of the other members more experienced w/these ripping proggies can come up w/either a new guide or just some suggestion that proves a lil more helpful to anyone who uses dvdfab hd.

come on fellas. i did my home work on this one. rally together and post some tried and true methods you've tried concerning this.

I've been using DVD Decryter version 3.1.9.o and was trying to back up my dvd movies on hard drive and got a cyclic redundancy. it also worked on other dvd, but not on back up found out some of the newer movies have this in it which is associated with some kind of a frame detection which adds a bit-n to each frame which leads little margine to copy movies to hard drive. What I like to know if there is any new program that will by pass this program.

joker. get dvdfab hd. go to their website www.dvdfab.com or find the link here on one of the forums. that should take care of the ripping. it's free also. to compress use shrink. it's also free and you could download it from here or go to www.filehippo.com. it's a trusted site for freeware.

to burn you could use imgburn. that's free too. www.imgburn.com.

you could also download a free trial of anydvd and clonedvd2. that could do it too. try these out n post back if any issues.

someone will address them. you're in good hands here.
