I will listen to a podcast or a new song at home and then find it on my iPod - not listened to.

My main iTunes is at home, although I have everything except podcasts also loaded at work.

When I leave home, I set my iPod to manual synchronization. When I get home, I wait for it to synchronize, set it to automatic synchronization, wait for it to synchronize again, and then set it back to manual. Obviously this procedure means I don't understand how it's supposed to work - and sure enough it doesn't work correctly.

What I want is to have songs on my iPod to know that I played stuff on my main computer (It would also be nice if it know about stuff I played on my alternate computer - but I expect that's not possible).

Then I want my main computer to update itself with rating and play count changes from my iPod.

Why do I have stuff I listened to at home in my smart playlist of stuff I haven't yet listened to?
