my "friends" have downloaded movies off bitlord and their always around 700 meg and they look fine. what i want to do is just rip the movie off a dvd and keep it around 700 meg so i can watch it anytime without a dvd. i dont want a menu or extras or anything like that i just want the main movie and audio, can anybody please tell me some free software that can do that for me.

Rip DVD with DVDFab HD Decrypter.
Run program, insert DVD disk to be ripped, select 'Main Movie'

Convert to AVI:

I want to try this also. So your saying that is I run the DVDFab Decrypter to rip the movie to the hard drive I can them move it to a DVD+R. I have this burner below w/nero 7(the full verson). Can I burn the DVD to the computer then incert then take out the original DVD and put in a DVD+R to burn to that using the NERO 7?Please let me know.

The original thread is regarding conversion of a DVD to AVI files - what you are suggesting is different.

You can rip the movie to the hard drive and save it in a folder.

Since the ripped movie files are too large to fit on a standard DVD-5, you have to decide:

(a) Shrink the files to fit, using the free program 'DVD Shrink' and allow DVD Shrink to link to Nero and burn the disk.

(b) Use 'Nero Recode' to shrink the files and burn the disk.

(c) Don't shrink the files and burn the output to a dual layer/double layer DVD disk.

Using the dual layer/double layer disk would be the fastest - but note that people sometimes run into problems using that route.

Using DVDFadHD wont rip the origanial movie to the Hard Drive. I want just the movie no extras. Then can I just use the video file part in NERO to burn to the DVD. Sometimes it says it need to convert to a PAL or AVI. Would that work or do I have to make it a AVI first then. use the video file in NERO to burn to the DVD

The movie has to be ripped to the HD first.
What's the problem with this movie?

I think that posts regarding the copying of rented movies are prohibited.

Insert disk, run program select 'Main Movie'

'AnyDVD' can remove protection from disks that other programs have problems with.

Use DVD Shrink on the output and burn with Nero.
