Yesterday I bought a Super All Write Liteon 20X DVD/CD Writer & Rewriter for my Windows XP computer, and it came with a Nero 7 software CD.
After installing the CD version of Nero I updated it to the latest 7 version (7.10.1.0) from the www.nero.com website.
I recorded a film (Crimson Tide) off my Sky+ digibox onto a TDK DVD-RW disc using my DVD recorder (which is a Panasonic DMR-EH60DEB.)
Funny thing is, when I play the DVD-RW on the new computer DVD drive the audio gradually lags further and further behind the video. If I pause the video by clicking on the progression slider button, the audio and video temporarily come back into synch, but after a while the audio again begins to lag behind the video, eventually making the movie unwatchable.
Today, I uninstalled Nero and the re-installed it back to the 7.10.1.0 version after doing a disc defrag, just in case there I had a bum install. But I've still got the same problem.
(By the way, I tried playing the DVD-RW on my Panasonic DVD recorder and on there it runs with both video and audio perfectly synchronised.)
I've changed the setup for the CD/DVD Drive so that it is set to the secondary IDE port with the jumper setting to Master (previously I had it on the same IDE port but with the jumper set to Cable Select.) But that didn't help - I've still got the same problem when playing DVD-RW discs.
I've got one IDE hard drive on the Primary IDE channel. I've probably set the jumper for this as Cable Select (couldn't be bothered to take it out just to have a look.) I also have a SATA Hard Drive installed on my motherboard.
I've gone through alkohol's procedure. I have two Primary IDE channels and two secondary IDE channels showing in my Device Manager screen. All Device Type settings are at Auto. Both Primary IDE channel have the Device Type dimmed for Device 0.
Both Primary IDE channels have Device 0 Transfer Mode set to DMA if available. The Current Transfer Mode is set to Ultra DMA Mode 5. The Device 1 Transfer Mode is set to DMA if available and the Current Transfer Mode is showing as Not Applicable.
The first Secondary IDE channel has the Device Type for Device 0 dimmed out and set to Auto Detection. The Transfer Mode for Device 0 is set to DMA if available, and the Current Transfer Mode is showing Ultra DMA Mode 4. Device 1 is set to Auto Detection selected (i.e. not dimmed out), the Transfer Mode is set to DMA if available and the Current Transfer Mode is showing Not Applicable.
The second Secondary IDE channel is showing the Current Transfer Mode as Not Applicable for both Device 0 and 1.
I've also recorded an episode of Friends using a DVD-RAM and that plays with the audio perfectly in sync on my computer DVD player throughout the entire playing time. What I suspect might be causing Nero problems, therefore, is the method of finalisation employed by my Panasonic DVD recorder to enable the DVD-RW discs to be played on other DVD players. The DVD-RAM discs do not need to be finalised before they can be played on other DVD players.
I'm unclear where Nero comes into the picture (unless the disk is being played back by Nero, in which case another media player like 'VLC' could be used to verify the problem).
I record Maxell (Optodisc) DVD-RW's on a Panasonic recorder also, and have no problems with sync.
However the condition you describe, where the video has to be stopped to correct the sync, is apparent on one of my players when using 'Ritek' as opposed to 'Verbatim' media - but these generally are disks that have been burned on the PC at more than 4x..
