Hi,
Some time ago I posted a message regarding the slow operation of my recently installed LG internal burners.
I have a Dell Dimension desktop, with a 2.4G Celeron processor, 1G of Ram, etc.
Before I installed these drives, I had one CD-ROM and one CD-RW installed.
I removed them, and both jumpers were set for CS (Cable Select)
In my previous posting it was suggested I install my new DVD-RW drives as master and slave.
I did this, and they work. On their own, they are fine. When I try to use them at the same time they are very slow (best write speed 1.8x)
I was wondering would my speed improve if I set these drives to CS (Cable Select) just as the previous factory drives were. Would it make a difference in the speed?
Well I did as suggested, and initially it seemed to be quicker. Overall it seems quicker.
I neglected to mention the speeds are usually slow when I am using both burners simultaneously. I imagine this might impact the results.
They are attached to the motherboard with the same ribbon cable.
Would that make a difference? I have no open ports on the motherboard as the floppy is in 1 and the HD is in the other.
I appreciate the help. It did make a difference. Perhaps me expectations were too high.
Being on the same ide cable shouldn't affect the speed much at all.
Most of my ide cables have 2 drives connected.
Check and make sure both are in DMA mode and not PIO. Even if they are I would still go ahead and uninstall the ide controller & reboot to reinstall - can't hurt and may help.
Here's a guide
What speed is it actually burning at now? How about the media?
Hi,
I checked them both, and they both said DMA if available.
The media I am using is Verbatim DVD-R discs, 16X capable.
I uninstalled the IDE controller anyway, and all seems ok.
I have not tried burning anything as I am done burnin for the night, and will try again tomorrow.
You might also want to make sure your firmware is up to date. You can check LG sites to see if there a newer firmware or if you need help post back the model #.
