nerovision 3.1.0.25 freezes when adding fades to clips

Hi Guys ....

I'm using NVE 3.1.0.25.
have been using it for ages and it works like a charm,
however this is the first time i've tried adding fades to the beginning and end of clips.
It allows me to go into the clip and add the effects to the beginning and end, come out of the clip, and then save ready to edit the next clip.
However, if i try to go back in to re-edit a clip i have already added an effect to, it simply freezes, or if i click next to edit the menu, and click on an edited clip from there (to change the title for instance) it freezes again.

..so in a nutshell, NVE freezes anytime i try to do anything with a clip i've added a fade to already.

Any ideas guys?
Also.. what is the best version of NVE to be using to create dvds with anyway?
