My DMR-E85H displays "Please Wait" continiously. I unplugged it and left it unplugged for 3 days (I did this twice) and still get the same "Please wait" message. The unit does not respond to any inputs, including the power switch. I tried the solution posted elsewhere on the forum - where you hold both up and down channel butons on the main unit in - but that did not work. I called Panasonic and described the problem. They said send it in; it will cost $130. Unfortunately, it's out of warranty. Any ideas?

Try this:
While the player is in the Stop mode, hold the player's Skip/Search button, and the Pause button down simultaneously and then hold the Open/Close button for longer than three seconds (until "Initialized" disappears from the tv monitor.

This should reset the player to factory settings. If this fixes your problem, you'll need to set the settings back, that you had made (like set to bitstream, if you have HT).
Good luck!

Sorry.........I just noticed that it's the reverse Stop/Skip button you hold. It may make a difference.........

What I've used to do a deep reset is the procedure in this link from an earlier discussion:

"To initialize ALL parameters to factory defaults: With the unit OFF, press "Skip Rev" ( |<< ) and "Time Slip" and "Open/Close" for 5 seconds. All of these are on the unit--not the remote."

After it does the reset, you'll see the Test * L1 message (or something like that). Wait a minute. Turn off the power. Then unplug for 5 minutes. That should really zap it back. One thing to make sure is to set back the high speed dubbing feature. The factory default is off.

If you still see the "Please Wait" message, try the procedure again. If it still fails, you have a bad power supply and/or hard drive.

Ok, sorry it didn't work for you. I just typed what was in my owner's manual, for my old Panasonic.
Looks like a trip to the shop, or a new player........

I tried the deep reset posted by Furry Face to no avail. The problem is, the unit does not respond to any button pushes, including the power switch. It displays "Please Wait" anytime the unit is plugged in and the only way to turn it off is to unplug it. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not going to buy another Panasonic.
