I'm still a little confused when I search and read thru these forums concerning media. I use DVD Identifier but I'm not sure how to use the information.
I know the brand name (Benq, Maxell, TDK, Verbatim...etc) doesn't mean much, since the same brand can have multiple Manufacture ID's and Media Type ID's???
And it's the Media Type ID (like CMC,AZ2,001...etc) that is most important?
If you could please explain to me how the same Brand Name's differ within themselves, or at the very least what information is the most important for me to look for that would be so appreciated!
This link you can enter the brand name "Maxell" "Verbatim" "TDK" etc and get a list of the various manufacturers codes.
If you click on the code name, a list of anecdotes from people using the disks are shown - anecdotal, because it's unlikely that the manufacturers - or anyone connected to the business - are likely to fund a study of what's good, bad, or ugly ;)
mgray69- I think you have a basic grasp of the idea ! there are Brands like Ritek , Ricohjpn. Ritek , & Taiyo yuden that Manufacturer media under their own brand name and also manufacture media for other companies ( Brand names- (Like MAXELL, OFFICEDEPOT ,ECT..)In the case of Ritek and Ricohjpn! Taiyo Yuden at one time made disc for Fuji & Sony ! These MIJ Disc = Made in Japan are still available here and there but getting rarer by the day ! Then there are companys Like CMC - Who Make media mainly OEM'ed for other companies as their main Business !Then you have companies like Maxell that Outsource some of their media production to companies like CMC,Ritek , Ricohjpn, and also Manufacture media for some of their other markets JAPAN for instance ! The MIJ maxells are good stuff ! It all seems confusing I know but You understand the basics already Who Puts their name on the package isn't as important as who makes the actual disc !Personaly I would recommend Taiyo Yuden & verbatim , Ritek , Ricohjpn , Sony Both MIJ & MIT=Made In Taiwan, MIJ maxells - Some members swear By ritek and some swear at them But I've had good luck with mine ! Short list MIJ Media = Fuji, sony , = Taiyo yuden ( Some MIJ sony is not taiyo yueden it will code sony )MIJ Maxells , Taiyo Yudens ! as For Made in taiwan media Ritek , Ricohjpn, Verbatim - With verbatim being prefered !!! Avoid any media make in Hong Kong !!!! Good luck!!!
