After the introducton level in which Homer follows the white rabbit, there's the part where Homer rolls around the cave cave like a ball. After rolling around for about a minute, it instantly cuts to Homer awakening from his dream. Is this supposed to cut like this or is my copy faulty?

I think that is the way it is supposed to be. Had the same thing happen to me. Something similar also happens in the simpsons episodes (forget which one) but homer does walk around a chocolate town and eat various things. It is a dream though.
