will burning large games to dual layer dvd's work?

I tried using dvd+r DL discs when burning a large game like Conker live and reloaded.
the loading screen came on, but then froze after a few minutes of the loading bar just creeeeeeping along.

is there a dual layer disc that would work better?

I've used Verbatim DVD+R DL a good few times without issue!
