Hey I am using BitComet, with Tiscali 2MB Broadband. My torrents have many seeds, but aren't downloading very fast..I get on average 20kb/s - 45kb/s most of the day. Getting later into the night (early morning) the speed sometimes increases to about 70kb/s.
I have BitComet setup correctly and I don't use a router, I use a USB modem.
I've read about Tiscali throttling BitTorrent speeds, but I don't know if this has anything to do with it as I do rarely get speeds of around 100kb/s - 120kb/s, but when they're that high it will only last 20 seconds or so..then it slowly crawls back down to around 40kb/s, could this be Tiscali realizing therefore 'throttling'?
This is my 'speed test' results:

And preview of Torrent:

As you can see, my speeds are nothing like 700kb/s!
Any suggestions?

Those are good speeds considering Tiscali but that speed test is bad. Test at various times and if youi get the same results, I'd call tech or get a new ISP. incidentally, I think you're confusing kb (bits) with kB (bytes), 58 kB is 464 kbps. 1kB = 8 kb

Very important information. ISP's advertise in bits...makes the connection look faster to people not familiar with technology.

I'm surprised you get any speed using Tiscali. Speeds can fluctuate incredibly on torrents. Look into using Peer Guardian when you download, not 100% but I was caught years ago and since using it, never have been again. Not a blanket endorsement though.

Peer Guardian is pseudo protection. I say that because it protects you from KNOWN dangerous ip's, so until somebody discovers and updates the blocklist you have no idea what ip's are slipping under the radar. That is great, and reason enough to use it, but in reality PG is really only good for making you feel protected lol. The fundamental problem is that you have no idea who you are connecting to if you use bittorrent, which is extremely unsettling in my opinion.

True enough but at least you're protected from those known companies that report to the MPAA/RIAA and there are plenty of those. You're right about people feeling protected when they aren't 100% but, in this case, something is better than nothing. As you say, that's great but, in the final analysis, you don't know. If I lived where copyright laws applied, I don't think I would risk Bittorrent.
